Our China Miracle

The Red Thread "An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break." - An ancient Chinese belief.

My bloodwork came back. woohoo. Know what that means...One more step out of the way!

I went to UPS and Next Day Air all of our background checks and our physicals to Hope's For Families, in hopes to get ou homestudy done by next week. They should be getting it on Friday, October 21, but I am afraid that hurricane Wilma is going to play a factor in this. Dang it! I contacted our social worker to let him know that it is on its way, and he writes back and says they are out of the office til Monday. They are located in Ft. Pierce. (another bump in our road) Well, he did say that he would get it out as soon as he could. We were hoping to have our homestudy before the 26th of this month, because there is an increase in fees for the INS process. We wanted to avoid paying the added cost.

All the other paperwork that we have though, my birth certificate, our marriage license, financial statement, employment and non-employment letter, letter of petition to adopt, and physicals can go ahead and be sent to the Secretary of State and the Authentications this week. This process will probably take about two weeks. Tom is going on cruise in the next few days so there are a couple of those documents have to be notarized first before certifications and then authentications. He and I both need to be together to have our signatures notarized.

See, the process for all this is very lengthy and sometimes overwhelming. EVERY paper that we get has to be notarized, Secretary of State certified (which proves the notary is true), and then authenicated (to approve our paperwork). We have to have passports, reference letters, homestudy, and several pictures of our home life, including eveything I mentioned in the above paragraph. All this will be placed in a dossier (DTC - dossier to China) that will be sent to China for for translation into Chinese. Once that is done, in a couple of weeks we will be LID (log in date), and this will begin the LONG 7-8 month wait for China to match us with our daughter. Then we will get our referral and two months after referal, we will get to travel to China. We will stay in China for 2 weeks.
